Wood is the oldest and most natural material in boat building. Unlike GRP boats, wooden and teak boats require more care, as wood can absorb or release moisture, causing it to swell or shrink. Since wood is a living material, paint and wood coatings must have sufficient flexibility to protect the wood sustainably against moisture and rot.

Teak wood has always been a very popular material in boat building for deck planking as well as for interior and exterior fitting. Naturally oily, teak does not rot and is particularly resilient thanks to the silica it contains. With Swissvax products for teak, it can be easily cleaned and re-sealed with teak oil.
